Allelopathic Effects of the Invasive Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. on Native Plants: Perspectives toward Agrosystems

Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. Is highly recognized for its invasive character and detrimental effects on different plant species across the world. In this study, a field survey was performed to assess impact of P. surrounding native plants, followed by effect concentrations aqueous leaf extract seed germination seedling growth selected Qatari flora. Our observations indicated high prevalence new recruitments than other native-associated plants in study site. Germination percentage and/or radicle length test species: Acacia tortilis (Forssk.) Hayne, cineraria (L.) Druce, Sueda aegyptica (Hasselq.) Aellen, Halopeplis perfoliata Bunge ex Schweinf. & Asch, were significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced extracts at concentration levels. Moreover, rate A. not affected; however, affected 6 8 mg mL−1. The lengths 2 mL−1 both species. S. H. decreased juliflora. Furthermore, height biomass seedlings Aeluropus lagopoides Trin. Thwaites, Caroxylon imbricatum (Forssk.), Tetraena qatarensis (Hadidi) Beier Thulin mL−1, indicating an autotoxic effect. Such allelopathic behavior designates potential investigation using allelochemicals as naturally based herbicides agrosystems.
